  • Lawsuit Settlement Gets College Coming and Going

    October 24, 2013 • Top Story • 1311

Most people agree the legal system in this country is out of whack, and the University of California-Davis feeling the brunt of the judicial dysfunction.  You see, UC Davis is paying out settlements to BOTH the ‘Occupy’ hacks who were pelted with pepper spray last year AND the officer who sprayed them.  The explanation as to why both parties are getting paid is as confusing as the ‘Occupy’ message that got them there.

  • Bubbles & Leverage:
    Greenspan’s Greatest Hits

    October 23, 2013 • Top Story • 1209

Alan Greenspan has taken time from his job as understudy to the Count on Sesame Street to reminisce about the economy that could have been. Looking back on the crisis of ’08, Greenspan said that he sees now that everyone knew the housing bubble was an issue, but no one foresaw its ultimate scope.  Brilliant. It’s reassuring to know hindsight is 20/20, even at  87.

  • The Crossroads of Private Business & Govt Folly

    October 22, 2013 • Top Story • 1152

This may come at no surprise but when the Government turned to private companies to do their bidding, ‘glitches’ won the day. A wise philosopher once quipped ‘a glitch is when you accidentally hit your garage door button without a result, not when you spend $394 million on a broken website.’  In other news, the missing jobs report is out, and it looks ‘good’ – but those who tout these numbers as ‘good’ see HealthCare.gov as success.

  • Inflate This:US Debt Balloons Over Last 3 yrs

    October 21, 2013 • Top Story • 1388

Here is a startling fact: Over the last three years, US federal debt has increased enough to pay for 3 yrs at a state college for every American household.  Tuition ain’t cheap – that’s about $3 trillion. We have a lot to show for that $3 trillion, for example, HealthCare.org.  But hey, at least we’re all living the dream, right?

  • The Sky Didn’t Fall When Things Shutdown

    October 18, 2013 • Top Story • 1461

Looking back on the Federal Shutdown of 2013, it looks like things weren’t so bad.  While hundreds of thousands furloughed federal employees were at home (worrying about their bills), the Government still managed to spend 72% of what they would nominally pay in salaries and 95% of what is due in insurance premiums.  Apparently the sky didn’t fall as hard as we were told, unless of course you are veteran or a national parks enthusiast.  Chicken Little/Hillary Clinton 2016 anyone?

  • Fast Food & Welfare, Like Love & Marriage

    October 17, 2013 • Top Story • 1242

Was it the chicken or the egg that came first?  A new ‘study’ is out, linking the low wages of fast food mavens like McDonald’s and Taco Bell to the glut of people on the government dole, and on the surface, that makes sense, but in reality that’s like blaming car makers for car insurance requirements.  Just because the qualifying threshold for welfare coincides with the income level for a number of people working in fast food, doesn’t mean Ronald McDonald is ripping taxpayers off.  Business is booming for fast food, maybe they’re doing something right.

  • Hide & Go Seek, Government Shutdown Style

    October 16, 2013 • Top Story • 1361

What is the best way to avoid sticker shock?  How about hiding the cost until it’s too late.  That’s the game plan for the roll out of Obamacare.  On the website designed to enroll people in health insurance exchanges, designed glitches are forcing people to signup for services before knowing what they are paying.  ‘Mystery meat’ anyone?

  • Free Market at Work: Snuggle House Opens for Business

    October 15, 2013 • Top Story • 1524

If there is a need, the market will fill it.  Everyone has a need to be loved and one new business in Madison, WI wants to make sure that everyone’s need is satiated, for a price.   The Snuggle House is open for business today and for $60/hour you can get one-on-one time with a ‘professional snuggler.’  Elsewhere, the Govt is refusing to satiate the public’s thirst for water, go figure.

  • Shutdown Day 14:The Debt Ceiling Ponzi Scheme

    October 14, 2013 • Top Story • 1663

The Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, has been selling a plan to Congress that the SEC would call a Ponzi scheme, and Congress has been eating it up.  For the record, a Ponzi scheme is defined as: ‘A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors.’  Speaking of Ponzi schemes, the US Postal Service has destroyed an entire run of stamps, wasting money seems to be a sport at USPS.
