  • Why Does Materialism Get a Bad Rap?

    June 18, 2014 • Top Story • 5258

Normally, Louis C.K. deserves all the accolades he gets.  He is a comedian at the top of his game and like the legends that have come before him- Carlin, Pryor, Bruce, to name a few -he takes society to task over our foolish idiosyncrasies.  But this time he got it wrong when he took US to task for our materialism. What he overlooked was the power that materialism holds within the free market, it drives innovation, it spurs the bright minds that have brought us things like Apple, Google, Facebook. That insatiable need of the savvy consumer to identify and pursue better goods and services is the ethos that makes this country great.

  • Where’s Our Money?

    June 16, 2014 • Top Story • 5984

Unprecedented amounts of money have been ‘recouped’ by the Fed over the ’08 financial crisis. but where has all it gone? Since the Government starting levying massive fines (to the tune the of $100b) on institutions tied to fraud during the economy’s collapse, tracking of where these monies is going has been spotty at best.  For example, of the $13b J.P. Morgan was fined -$4b went to as restitution to homeowners harmed by the alleged frauds. Where did the rest of the money go?  Into the coffers of our bloated, black hole of a Federal Government, probably into a fund to build a bridge to no-where.

  • The President Has Lost The Trust of The People

    June 13, 2014 • Top Story • 2041

A new Gallup Poll shows that a majority of Americans think President Obama is no longer trustworthy. This may not be news to most, but the quantification of this is very interesting.  The last time a President was this poorly trusted, Americans were dying daily in Iraq.  And now Iraq is back in the news, look how far we’ve come…

  • The Antidote To Aging

    June 12, 2014 • Top Story • 1863

Retirement is dead, or at least retirement as we know it.  A new survey of American adults over the age of fifty finds that seventy-five percent of respondents have zero plans to retire from the workforce.  Most plan on working in some capacity, some hope to explore new and interesting careers that allow flexibility to live life in a relaxed fashion.  Many are calling this the “Antidote to Aging.”  But the real driving force, an economy that wiped out a third of the boomer’s wealth and left them holding the bag.

  • Eric Cantor’s Massive Failure, By The Numbers

    June 11, 2014 • Top Story • 2107

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) lost last night in a primary race against a scrappy economics professor named Dave Brat, this loss is the equivalent to the Harlem Globetrotters being shut out by the Washington Generals.  For example, Cantor’s campaign spent over $168k at steakhouses alone, compared to Brat’s campaign spending $122k, ON HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN!
