Fire All the Firemen

More fallout from the Affordable Care Act – this time first responders are in the line of fire. The employer mandate encompassing ‘businesses’ that employ 50+ people will come down on ‘volunteer’ fire departments all across nation. The US Department of Labor considers ‘volunteer’ firefighters -volunteers, but the IRS begs to differ. The IRS technically considers firefighters ’employees’ and thus small time departments all around the nation are going to have to choose between paying huge fines or keeping the lights on when someone calls. In the private world, a plan like Obamacare -one that has this much fallout- would cost a lot people in charge their jobs.
